The Name of the Memorial

The official name of the memorial is: National Desert Storm and Desert Shield Memorial

The Shield/Storm appear to be in the wrong order in the official name of the Memorial.
This was done purposefully by the lawmakers to ensure that "Storm" got the most attention as Storm is the name of the war.

According to the lawmakers, the memorial needs to have the name Storm first. They (lawmakers) did not want to omit the word “Shield” since we had deaths occur during Shield.

The Board of Directors for the National Desert Storm War Memorial Association was not in favor of the reversal but we are extremely thankful for the law that passed and authorizes us to build the Memorial, the additional law that authorizes us to build in an Area 1 designation in Washington D.C. and the ruling that has granted us our preferred location at the National Mall adjacent to the Lincoln Memorial and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
